Chapter 7

On the way to Henry’s home, Demetria called Jason and Erin on Bluetooth to discuss the situation with Henry and his parents.

“Okay, we can only think of one way to handle this. Samantha wants to live with a jaguar family. Finding one for her won’t be a problem. We’ve talked to Henry about his relationship with his parents and he loves them. He wants us to turn them so they can be one big, happy jaguar family,” Demetria said. “And Samantha, if she wants, can live with them too.”

“Would Henry’s parents agree to that? Her other aunt, Melanie, said she could stay with her and her family, but I don’t believe we should turn her aunt and her aunt’s family,” Erin said.

“No, we agree,” Everett said. “Normally, we wouldn’t even consider doing something like this to Henry’s parents, but he’s young, we don’t have shifting issues like the wolves do with the moon phases and all, and hopefully we can do this so that Henry can grow up with his own family like he should. Except they’ll be changed. And Henry can join the group of homeschooled jaguars so that he doesn’t get himself into trouble with other kids. Samantha seems to be fine in that regard. But Henry is at the age where he might feel he has to prove himself and we don’t want him to show off his jaguar abilities.”

That was one thing as PIs, Jason and the other investigators in their agency didn’t need to concern themselves with turning humans—normally. All they had to do was call on the jaguar agency to deal with it. He never thought they would turn parents though because a child had been turned. Not that the idea didn’t have merit, but he’d just never considered having to do it.

When they ended the call, Erin let out her breath. “That’s something I’d never have to do as an FBI agent.”

“Not as a private investigator either. And I’m glad for that.” Jason glanced at Erin, not sure how she felt about any of this. “We need to be there to corroborate what had happened, but we can wait until Demetria and Everett turn the parents. Then speak to them also.”

“No way. We need to help out if the parents totally freak out. Which they might.”

When Everett and Demetria pulled into the driveway of Henry’s home, Jason and Erin parked behind him. The wolf shifter and snow leopard pulled up and parked and Dale drove up in his truck right after that. Samantha got out and joined the others, waving goodbye to Dale and he drove off.

Then they all went to the door with Henry. When the dad answered the door, he looked pale, probably from being sick with the flu, but he brightened upon seeing Henry, hugging him. “God, I’m so glad you’re all right. What, where—”

Everett and Demetria showed him their badges. “Can we go inside and talk?” Everett asked.

“Yeah, sure. If you’re not afraid of getting sick from the flu.
